The referee will stand and raise one hand straight upwards to attract the attention of the medical officer on the day.

Should an injury require the contestant to leave the contest area, they must do so only with the Medical attendant.

The amount of time that the contestant is allowed to be absent from the contest area shall be for the duration of the contest. On their return, the time away will be treated as injury time which should be noted.

If the contestant fails to return to the contest, or should the medical attendant advise the referee that the injured contestant is not able to continue, the referee shall make judgment and a decision will be called.

6:1 Cause of injury

In the event that a contestant cannot continue to contest due to injury, accident or illness, the referee shall make a judgment based on the following criteria:

  • If the cause of the Injury is believed to be the fault of the injured person, then the injured person shall lose the contest.
  • If the opponent of the injured contestant is believed to be at fault, and then the opponent shall lose the contest.
  • When the cause of the injury cannot be directed to either contestant the decision of Hiki- Waki shall be given. In a situation where a winner must be determined the injured contestant will be judged the loser.
  • In the event of a contestant being injured due to an outside occurrence the decision of Hiki-Waki shall be given.
  • If when injury is caused by an illegal act, and following treatment of the contestant, the referee shall award the necessary penalty point to the opponent.
  • When an injured contestant where unable to continue to the same previous injury of the illegal act the opponent cannot be further penalised, therefore the injured party shall lose the contest.
