7 to under 10 years
All primary grades are graded to White Belt on completion of the Beginners’ Club Level 1, Beginners Induction Course. They then continue to wear their White Belt while they are graded to their future colour tag grades.
It is important that one grade is awarded at each grading, and that jumping of grades is not permitted at this stage.
All of the required syllabus techniques are to be demonstrated to an appropriate level and it is intended that the level of examination should become greater in depth as the student progresses through their grade.
It is intended that the syllabus for the Primary group is limited to their age and ability, so supplementing the examination with a deeper emphasis on etiquette, Ukemi, holding, breaking of balance, and additional terminology be applied.
The examiner may also ask questions from a previous examination. This will help further assess the ability and capability of the student.
