Advanced grading syllabus for Second Dan and above
All Dan grades attempting for their grade must:
- Have an up-to-date membership of the JFAUK
- Have an up-to-date Coaching Level 1 qualification
- Have an up-to-date Refereeing Level 1 qualification
- Have record of regular attendance of judo
- Be proficient in starting and running a session for no less than 30 minutes, including demonstration of structured warm up and warm down exercises
- Have knowledge of the policies and principals of the existing governing Judo body, JFAUK.
First Dan to Second Dan
- Hold the grade of 1st Dan for a minimum of one year
- Demonstrate Katame No Kata or have proof of completion of the Nage no Kata Course
- Demonstrate the full 26 throwing techniques from the grading structure
- Demonstrate the full 22 groundwork techniques from the grading structure
- Contest against minimum 4 of similar grade (1st Dan Minimum) or line up mixed grade (8 people, 1st Kyu minimum).
- 1 Draw allowed.
- 0 Losses allowed.
Second Dan to Third Dan
- Hold the grade of Second Dan for a minimum of two years
- Hold an up-to-date Level 2 Coaching Qualification
- Hold an up-to-date Referee Level 1 Qualification
- Must have a record of the running of a full club session (minimum 1 hour), signed by the existing head instructor the club or to be assessed by an existing area or national grading officer
- Demonstrate Kaishi No Kata, or have proof of completion of the Kaishi No Kata Course
- Demonstrate the full 26 throwing techniques from the grading structure
- Demonstrate the full 22 groundwork techniques from the grading structure
- Contest against minimum 4 of similar grade (2nd Dan Minimum) or line up mixed grade (8 people, 1st Dan minimum)
- 1 Draw allowed.
- 0 Losses allowed.
Third Dan to Fourth Dan
- Must hold the grade of Third Dan for a minimum of three years
- Hold an up-to-date Level 2 Coaching Qualification
- Hold an up-to-date Referee Level 1 Qualification
- Demonstrate Kime No Kata
- Contest against minimum 4 of similar grade (3rd Dan Minimum) or line up mixed grade (12 people, 1st Dan minimum)
- 1 Draw allowed.
- 0 Losses allowed.
Fourth to Fith Dan
- Must hold the grade of Fourth Dan for a minimum of four years
- Hold an up-to-date Level Two Coaching Qualification
- Hold an up-to-date Referee Level 1 Qualification
- Demonstrate any two Katas of own choice
- Contest against minimum 4 of similar grade (4th Dan Minimum) or line up mixed grade (8 people, 2nd Dan minimum)
- 0 Draw allowed.
- 0 Losses allowed.
Sixth Dan and above
- 6th Dan and above will be awarded as an Honorary Grade and will be at the discretion of the highest authority of the governing body of JFAUK.
