2019 has been a fantastic and busy year for JFAUK. With many travels across Europe and the UK competing and attending seminars. Highlighting great performances at the World Martial Art Games in Italy 🇮🇹 with 7🏅 Gold medals and several more medals at the Miyazaki and Matsuura Cups in Greece 🇬🇷 this year. On top of this, many successful and joyful experiences with seminars in Bulgaria 🇧🇬 , Gibraltar 🇬🇮 and many more across the UK 🇬🇧 including the JFAUK Summer School. With the bar set high, 2020 is going to be another busy year, growing and developing with new experiences and challenges.
We would like to thank and congratulate all the Judoka and friends who have attended and supported our events this year as we look forward to another great year in 2020.

Team JFAUK have officially crowned 7 new WJF World Champions after taking part in the WJF World Championships this weekend in Carrara, Italy.
Integrated into the International Martial Arts Games, a global festival bringing together ~4000 martial artists from various disciplines across the globe, the WJF World Championships provided a world platform for affiliated judoka to compete for a coveted world medal.
The judo event itself drew judoka from each corner of the globe. Competitors from across Europe, the Americas, Australia and Asia descended onto Carrara for the one day tournament.
JFAUK had an extraordinary day, topping the medal table by securing a 100% medal rate of 10 medals from 10 competitors, 7 of which were gold. Our newly crowned WJF world champions are: 🥇 Alex Charalambous (-66kg)
🥇 Sam Charalambous (-75kg)
🥇 Lucian Buleandra (-83kg)
🥇Jonathan Coe (-95kg)
🥇Ross Elliot (-100kg)
🥇Richard Murphy (+100kg)
🥇 Eloise Lumley (-70kg)
Also securing a very commendable place on the podium were: 🥈 Sam Sampson (-79kg)
🥈 Sophie Curtis (-57kg)
🥉Alexis Bardini (-71kg)

Congratulations to each competitor for taking on the challenge and representing JFAUK with such high regard.

A big congratulations also goes to Samuel Betu and Rob Elliot who played a key role in the running of the tournament as WJF International Referees. Also supporting them was Sampson Sampson, officiating his role as Chairman of the WJF Referee committee. Further to the tournament, the team also participated in an international training camp led by Alfredo Vismara (9th Dan), Giuseppe Vismara (9th Dan) and Sampson Sampson (8th Dan). Well done once again to the team for stepping up to the challenge and finishing the year on such a high note!

(2/2) As well as the plethora of judo shared between the students, it was a pleasure to witness the social environment that brought together various people from different places, origins and backgrounds for the same common goal - to enjoy judo.

We would like to congratulate JFAUK Sussex Area representative Chris Cooper on his new promotion to 6th Dan. Chris has worked tirelessly for JFAUK since he came on board and has helped to grow the Sussex area into bustling hotbed for traditional judo, with a series of clubs, each promoting and practicing traditional judo under JFAUK’s philosophy. His ongoing efforts are a testimony to his character and we are very proud to award him with this high grade as recognition for his contribution to judo. Congratulations.

As always we would like to thank all of the team members who worked behind the scenes to make this course a success, with a special thanks going to Chris Cooper from Worthing Judo Club and Ross Elliot from Club Judoka whose joint efforts enabled this course to run smoothly and successfully.

Another thanks goes to all the judoka who attended the event as without you, none of this would be possible. A further thanks goes to all international judoka who took the time and effort to travel to our course.

As the dust settles on this year, we have already begun planning next year which as always plans to be bigger and better than ever. Keep your eye on this page to find out more about all of our future events.

(1/2) Well done to all the judoka who completed the third annual JFAUK Worthing Summer School last weekend. With judoka from all over the country as well as international judoka from Gibraltar and Poland, this year proved to be another resounding success with many hours of fantastic judo shared between the participants.

Led by JFAUK President Sampson Sampson (8th Dan) and supported by JFAUK high grades Farid Nemouchi (6th Dan), Samuel Betu (6th Dan), Bob Bushnell (6th Dan) Chris Cooper (6th Dan), Rob Elliot (5th Dan), Sam Sampson (2nd Dan) and Ross Elliot (2nd Dan), the course was a true showcase of traditional, effective judo that highlighted a number of techniques that furthered each judoka’s technical and competitive understanding of judo.

As always the standard at the course truly excelled itself from the previous, highlighting the continuous growth of not only the course itself but the desire and thirst for traditional judo in the U.K.

Well done to all the judoka who took part in the JFAUK area randori session today. Our 3 hour area randori sessions bring together judoka from all across the UK to train, test and integrate with one another on the tatami.

JFAUK are proud to announce that we will be attending the third WJF World Traditional Judo Championships which will be incorporated into the 8th International World Martial Arts Games taking place in Carrara, Italy.

Drawing competitors from over 40 counties and held every two years, the International Martial Arts games bring together all martial arts in a worldwide event that celebrates and showcases different forms of fighting.

JFAUK are proud to be working with the WJF and its affiliated bodies to provide yet another international platform for our judoka to express their skills. The judo delegation for this event will be led by Italian high grades Alfredo Vismara (9th Dan) and Guiesppe Vismara (9th Dan). The Italian duo will also be running an international training camp and will be supported by JFAUK’s own Sampson Sampson (8th Dan) for the event.

The WJF World Traditional Judo Championships extends the continuous growth of JFAUK and the WJF and continues to highlight the desire for pure, traditional judo felt by judoka across the world. We are very excited to be part of this event and cannot wait to bring this opportunity to our members.

Team JFAUK have returned from the 2019 CSIT World Sports Games in Tortosa, Spain, coming away with two bronze medals in hand.
The first bronze medal came from Oli Relton in the senior men’s -73kg category. Oli took on an extremely tough category consisting of high level judoka from across the world and battled through into the semi finals before facing the eventual gold medalist of Iran. Despite putting up a strong performance and coming extremely close to throwing the Iranian for Ippon, Oli was unfortunately caught and had to settle for a bronze medal.

Also competing in the senior men’s -73kg category was Alex Charalambous. Despite a valiant effort, Alex was unfortunately knocked out in the group stages after falling short to the eventual finalists hailing from Iran and Italy.
The second bronze medal came from Ross Elliot in the men’s -100kg category. Ross faced a category of well accomplished judoka and battled through against Italian and Spanish judoka before eventually falling short in the semi final against the eventual gold medalist of Iran, leaving him with a bronze medal and matching his achievement from the 2017 World Sports Games in Latvia.
The final judoka of the day to step on the tatami was Sam Sampson in the men’s -81kg category. Sam took on an extremely tough category of Iranian, Spanish, Italian and Austrian judoka but was unfortunately knocked out in the group stages after drawing an extremely tough group which included the world’s current number 1 ranked judoka from Iran.
The trip proved to be successful with much experience gained by the team, who will now bring this experience back to their clubs and assist the many aspiring judoka spread across JFAUK. Held every two years, the event always draws very experienced judoka from across the world and is a true test at the highest level for our judoka. As always, we are proud of our team for taking on the challenge and congratulate our medalists. We look forward to 2021 where we can step back on the WSG tatami.

Good luck to the JFAUK athletes taking part in the 2019 World Sport Games which are being held in Tortosa!

The team have arrived in Tortosa and have just taken part in the parade and opening ceremony where the 3,000 athletes from the various spots and countries within the games come together to commence the start of the event.

Tomorrow, the team enjoy a light training session before stepping on the tatami on Thursday.

A big congratulations to the JFAUK team who travelled to the Matsuura International Cup in Greece last weekend. Growing year on year, this regular event on the WJF international circuit drew competitors from the UK, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Syria, Macedonia, and a large team from Serbia.

JFAUK achieved Gold medals from Alex Charalambous, Sacha McClean and Karl Summerbell whilst silver medals went to Ross Elliot, Fionn Rowan, Lucian Buleandra and Bronzes went to Jonathan Coe, and Andreas Kouyialis - who unfortunately had to withdraw in the semi-final due to injury and rush to the hospital. A valiant performance was also held by Dave Dalby-Webb, however there was no medal achieved during his international debut.

In addition to the tournament an international training camp was led by JFAUK President & Chairman of the WJF Referee committee, Sampson Sampson (8th Dan) and Chairman of the WJF Technical Committee Alfredo Vismara (9th Dan). Supporting the team was WJF international Referees Samuel Betu (6th Dan) and Rob Elliot (5th Dan) as well as Midland area representative Dave Hammond (5th Dan). All in all the event was a great success with plenty of medals and experienced gained by the team.
